...on this blog.

Alas, I have been mulling over this decision for quite a while now, and it is done.  I have decided to close this blog in order to start fresh with a blog that is not simply about weaving, but about life in general.  One of the main reasons I've created a new blog is that I started this blog to document my weaving.  And now that life has twisted around and weaving is not as big a part of it as I would hope, I just have other things I would like to blog about.  And then, I'm an over achiever and it really bothers me to have a weaving blog that rarely talks about weaving.  So, this is the last post on this blog.

But, I can't leave you without a teaser...  I do have a project on my loom right now, and I will be blogging about it on my new blog soon.  So, I'd love it if you wanted to drop by and check out the new site: Courting Contentment.  Hope to see you there!

Falling Behind

So, it's summer and I'm still falling behind.  There's something about having nothing that *needs* to get done that really makes you get very little done.  I've been weaving, hanging out with the hubby, watching movies, shopping, working on color guard... And yet, I've been meaning to blog for three days, and I'm just now doing it.  Oh well, I guess, more pics for you today!

First off: here's the green/purple/copper scarf.  (I still haven't taken real pics of it yet, so this is all I've got.)  I like it though.  It's softer than my kitty's fur (which is suuuuper soft.  Lol.)

And here's the sneak peek of the latest project.  (By now, its already finished, just needs to be washed and such.)  It's very similar to the one I made my mom for Christmas, but it's pretty skinny and has a lot more leno lace in it.

And here's my delicious granola!!!  It turned out really great, and I can't stop eating it, so this will probably be a regular recipe at my house.  I just love granola cereal, and it makes me feel pretty good about myself because its pretty good for you.  (Maybe not this version though; there's a LOT of sugar in it!)  I found the recipe on pinterest, and it comes from another blog, delia creates.  You can see the original recipe here!  I followed the recipe but only made a half batch this time.  (I hate to waste my ingredients in case I don't like something the first time I make it.)  Though I love the sweet taste, next time I might try it with a little less sugar so its a little healthier.  But it is DELICIOUS!!!!

Also, we went to the beach the other day and found these while we were walking!!!  Yay!  Conch shells are so rare to find around here, I was totally excited.  These are really cool because they look so old, thick, and worn down!  Yay!

Besides all that loveliness, I had to make a presentation for a training seminar I have to go to all next week for teacher stuff.  Whoever decided that teacher training should be smack in the middle of June was dumb.  It's very un-fun.

Also, I have one of the three songs choreographed for the marching band show!  Uniforms are officially ordered!  And flags are all decided!  Yippee!!!  I'm on a roll!

So even though I have been pretty productive this week, there's still no excuse for my poor blogging habits.  :(  I'm hoping to get a new project warped today, so wish me luck.  I have something totally different planned for this one!

Logging In

I always feel really bad when I haven't been on the blog in so long that google logs me out...  Then I have to log back in again to get an update on blogs that I read.  Sometimes it makes me feel so guilty that I just don't bother to log in again.  :(

Anyway, I'm exhausted.  And if I actually started to update you on all the things that have been going on, it would take pages.  And hours considering the fact that I basically cannot even type a word without having to backspace and correct a typing error at the moment.  Apparently my brain and fingers are not connected right now.  But, I can't get on here to talk about how bad I'm feeling about not blogging and then leave you with nothing.  So...

Here is the latest project.  This picture did not turn out so great because some of the fibers are so shiny.  But, I've already begun to weave on it and I'm really interested to see how its going to shape up.

ONLY 1 WEEK UNTIL SPRING BREAK!!!!!  Maybe I'll be able to blog a couple times then, but my parents are also going to be in town, so maybe not!

Do You See What I See?

An empty loom!!!!!!  Yay!  So that must mean that I finally finished weaving my latest project!  Yay!!!

So, its not finished yet.  It's been off the loom just long enough for me to take pictures and start blogging!  But, that means I'm on the home stretch!  Here's a pic!

Feature

Addiction

Wow!  (Okay, I feel like I am starting every post with an exclamation.  But man!)  I wove up like 14 feet today!  (Which seems like a lot to me, but it probably doesn't mean much to anyone else.)  I am totally addicted!  So, I made another ocean blue scarf (so it's ready to ship if someone buys it), and an ocean blue infinity scarf.  Pictures tomorrow, everything's drying right now.  And, I got a new project started on the loom.  So here's a sneak peek of that!

It's a terrible picture, I know, but whatever.  Thomas just got home, so I'm trying to get this done so I can hang out with him!

Randomness: Today, the 14 feet only took me 6 hours!  It makes such a big difference what material you're working with.  I just think that's so cool!

Anyway.  Good night all!

Hodge Podge

Whew!!!  I have been busy for the past two hours!  Thomas left for work at 2:45, and since then I have been working on the blog and my new facebook page.  And it is STRENUOUS!  Trying to figure out all the codes to link stuff and add Etsy to the blog, add Etsy to facebook, add facebook to the blog, add the blog to facebook.  It's really quite ridiculous.  But I've done it, so whatever.  So, if you want, go ahead and like my facebook page.  There is now a box on the right over there, under the Etsy thing where you can like and go diretcly to my facebook page, I think.  If it doesn't work, which it very well may not, I will deal with it another day.

So, I got a sample color card in the mail yesterday.  I need to match colors for a project I'm going to start here soon, so I ordered the card to see which colors will work best with my fabric.  And, as silly as it sounds, this card really made my day!  I mean, just LOOK at the COLORS!  Aren't they so cool, arranged in a rainbow pattern.  I love it!

On another note, here is another sneak peek of what's on my loom right now.  The fabric is weaving up beautifully!  I can't wait to see the finished product.  I've got an interesting idea (I think) for finishing it.

And what's interesting is that this is the first project that I have done that before starting, I sat down and did the calculations to see how much yarn I would need.  I only bought one skein, so I wanted to make sure that I had enough to finish the project.  But the only problem is that it is weaving up so completely differently than I thought it would, so I'm sure my calculations are WAAAAY off.  So this goes to show, don't bother doing the math, it'll just be wrong anyway.  Lol.

Other news:  About a week and a half ago, I ordered more silk yarn to make that coral infinity scarf to sell on Etsy.  Then the store informed me that it was backordered (GREAT!), but it should be in anytime, so I should just wait to hear from them................. a week later, I finally decided to call.  AND, they had absolutely NO IDEA when they would get that yarn in, so they suggested that I change my order.  (Couldn't they have told me that in the first place?!)  Anyway, I already had my eye on a different colorway of yarn in the same brand and price, and thank goodness, they had that color in stock.  So, long story short, unfortunately, the coral infinity scarf won't be available for purchase for a while (which probably makes me more sad than you), BUT I have a new colorway coming in that I think I may almost like just as much!

And as if this post wasn't random enough, I have two random comments to end on:  #1 ~ I got my first heart on Etsy last night!!!  Someone anonymously hearted my ocean blue scarf!  Yay!  I was practically jumping around the room when I saw.  (I'm amused by small things.)  And #2 ~ I just walked out of the study to get my water bottle and found Lo sleeping on the scale on the bathroom floor?????  Um... ok, weird cat.  But, the darn thing moved before I could get a picture of her.  Apparently she doesn't want herself plastered all over the internet doing really weird things.  :)

Middle of the Day Blues

Hey!  I'm at home right now, on my lunch break from work...  And I just can't hardly make myself go back!  I'm sitting here, finding awesome new blogs I want to follow (but I don't have time to even read anything), exploring Etsy, getting totally excited that I can now be connected with a community of people who also love to weave, staring at the new project I want to start.  And there just isn't enough time in the evenings for me to get my fill of the weaving world.  And I'm loving it!  I haven't felt this passionate about something in a while, and I just forgot how great a feeling it is!  If I could right now, I would be weaving and doing things associated to weaving non-stop.  But... life intervenes.  And I do need to go back to work.  :(  So, I will leave with a few photos of my new project.  I just got it warped and threaded on the loom last night, so I haven't even gotten to start weaving yet, but I CAN'T WAIT!  The yarn is such a beautiful color!

Well, as for the randomness today.  Last night, I had a dream about a cat I had who died a couple of years ago, and today I woke up missing her terribly.  Here is a picture of Ethyl zonked out in my mom's rocking chair which was her favorite place to sleep!

SUCCESS!!!

Well hello!!!  I have finished unraveling that awful mess that I have mentioned in the past couple of posts!  Woohoo!  Seriously, it took me like a million hours!  And... I was so excited that I didn't even take a picture of the finished unknotted yarn; it just went straight on the loom!  So, here is a sneak peek of my newest project... with the last of my beautiful two skeins from Conjoined Creations.  (But don't worry, this definitely won't be the last time you will see their amazing yarns in my projects because I am in love.)

As you can see from the second photo, it's a really loose weave, so I'm interested in seeing how the fabric turns out.  Also, it's a lot wider than the last couple of scarves I've made (actually, I think it's wider than all of them), but I'm really going for something different here, so we'll see how it turns out!

Random confession: My new addiction is "Army Wives", and I have been watching it non-stop all afternoon/evening while I've been weaving.  I just really like that show!

Well, I'd better go...  Lolo (the cat) is whining at me because it's time to play!

Sneak Peek and Faves

Well, I am about halfway done with my newest project, and here is a sneak peek!

This brand is my new favorite.  It's called "Conjoined Creations" and it is BEAUTIFUL!  I absolutely love it, and I think the fabric is going to turn out wonderfully!

Sneak Peek

Today I thought I would share a sneak peek of a new project I'm working on and a book that I just love!!!

Sneak peek first:

This is my first project with an eyelash yarn, and the colors are just AMAZING!  So, I'm pretty excited about it!  It should be finished later tonight or tomorrow, so I guess we will see if I like it pretty soon.

And now for the book!  I have bought three books since I got my loom, and this one is BY FAR my favorite!

 

As you can see in the photo, the book is called The Weaver's Idea Book: Creative Cloth on a Rigid Heddle Loom by Jane Patrick.  This book is a MUST HAVE for anyone with a rigid heddle loom.  Here are a few of the great things it has to offer:

1.  IT IS SPIRAL BOUND!!!  I know this sounds silly, but it is actually amazing!  When you're working on a project or learning a new pattern or stitch, it stays open to the page you need all by itself!  This is so convenient compared to a regular book that you have to open and close over and over again because it won't stay open.  Absolutely WONDERFUL!
2. I haven't tried about 99.9% of the projects and stitches, etc. in the book, but I have read through most of it, and Jane Patrick does a great job of easily explaining everything.  There are also very helpful step-by-step photos to go along with the explanations.  Super user-friendly.
3. Not only does Ms. Patrick teach a bajillion different stitches to weave on a rigid heddle loom, she follows that new knowledge up with project ideas and patterns to let you try out what you've just learned!

This book is amazing.  Like I said, if you have a rigid heddle loom, you need this book!

Well, I would like to get back to weaving, so this is the end for today.  Something silly/random: it is my husband's birthday today, and I've been writing this up while he plays with his birthday present.  And since he is this blog's only "follower", HAPPY BIRTHDAY HONEY!!!
